"Strategic alliances are becoming increasingly important. Do not remember where I saw that quote, but it struck at a time several years ago as very important. With each passing month it seems to me the truth in these words is increasing. One of the ways in which I am finding that the prophetic quote is in my cooperation with other photographers.
I have photos professionally for over 30 years. The vast majority of that time it seemed that the photographers do not disturb the truce with each other. It seemed that all viewed each other as competition, can not be trusted to interact with the exception of the occasional ASMP or APA meeting. For me, that all changed.
Video shooting time
As I write this I'm falling the week of shooting with one of my peers, David Fischer. Mainly we were shooting action films. It was very collaborative. And the camera (Panasonic HVX200 and the drive to record the FS100) and a contract with Getty.
David provided his experience as a sales manager. His colleagues provided us with free use the gyroscope to operate as a Steadicam for my camera. In return, I provided information that the owner of the gyroscope to help him improve the gyroscope Grab the camera. We have in fact created a strategic alliance that makes us all stronger and more effective.
Gang shoots with other photographers time
In the past four years have done many shoots group. The largest of these "gang shooting" was organized by the photographer Jack Hollingsworth, in Austin, Texas, for a group of owners of Blend Images and colleagues. I do not remember exactly how many of us it was not … something more than a dozen … all of us to share locations and models.
It was great fun, very reasonable cost (I think it was around $ 1,500.00 each throughout the day to shoot) and asked many times. I regularly shoot with two or three other photographers, grouping expenditures, casting, location reconnaissance and ideas. We have done shoots gangs in Mexico, Argentina, Myanmar, Thailand, India and here in the U.S. I had no bad experiences yet!
I became convinced that a gang shoots are fun too. You can get pretty crazy and has its own challenges. The shoot in Buenos Aires four of us rented a nightclub. We had music blaring, smoke and light machine, and over thirty models. It is not only time to shoot, this page too!
Difficulties, we had to overcome included finding an equitable manner for all of us get a chance at the best places, avoiding the other photographers and equipment in our photo gallery, ensuring equal access to the best models and so on. To make this kind of shoot time work to be upload photos to the same publisher of the agency to avoid any "similar" problems.
We are planning ahead to make sure that there is no apparent planning to impose and control with each other during the shoot. While remaining flexible and open, what is happening, and communicate effectively now, we all worked, and we all agreed it was one of the most fun shoots each one of us had.
Shooting motion pictures and
I am also involved in the production of time, again in Buenos Aires, where the two of us to shoot photos while the third focuses on the recording. In this case, we rented a penthouse on the awesome 43 second floor of the tallest building in the city. Again, we big time, saving time and money thanks to the cooperation and came away with some great shots. In the future I'm going to do much more of these shoots, which connect one person shooting motion and the other taking a picture.
